There have been many stories and legends told in ancient Egyptian culture about the Great Sphinxof Giza. I think the sphinx represents change as the representation of a one ruler’s era onto the next. Sphinx in ancient Egyptian translates to “shesep ankh atum”. There’s also more evidence that shows the Great Sphinx of Giza was intended to represent/ associate the Pharaoh with the sun god. Although there is no official to answer of why or who built the Great Sphinx of Giza, the most compelling evidence to suggests the Great Sphinx of Giza was built for the Pharaoh “Khafre” during his Reign that lasted from 25200 BCE to 2494 BCE. I think the Great Sphinx of Giza represents change. It’s also intriguing because it has the head of a pharaoh which means it is dedicated to some type of god of the times of Egypt’s theocracy. It’s thought by most egyptologis’s that it’s creation dates back to 2500 BCE.

The three artifacts I’ve chosen to represent the legacy of ancient Egypt in this blog post are the Great Sphinx of Giza, King Tut’s sarcophagus, and the Great Pyramid of Giza. This is because each of these ideals all have one thing in common they intrigue people about the mysteriousness and fascinating world of ancient Egyptian culture. These artifacts I imagine ,are the most commonly known by most of the world’s population. When I imagine Egypt or ancient Egyptian artifacts I picture riches, gold, pyramids and of course, the Great Sphinx. What is a legacy? A legacy is anything handed down from the past, with lasting impact.
